institutions such as museums, botanic gardens, aquariums, zoos, libraries and parks.
The statistics below are based on MSA members throughout
the United States and around the world.
Gross Revenues
More than 23 percent of museum stores generate over $500,000 a year
in gross revenues. Stores making gross revenues between $90,000 and
$499,999 account for another 41 percent.
Net Sales
The median net sales for museum stores is $179,800. Net sales range
from $3,000 to $12.5 million.
Store Size
The median size of museum stores is 850 sq. ft. and ranges from 10 sq.
ft. to 18,000 sq. ft.
Annual Visitors
The median annual museum attendance is 74,000 and ranges from 600 to 5 million.
Store Size and Net Sales
The median net sales per sq. ft. for museum stores is $212. The median
net sales per visitor is $2.43.
